What is LAKRS?

LAKRS - The Latvian Trade Union of Public service and Transport workers:

  • Curently unites around 15 100 members.
  • Established on October 19, 1990 at the 1st Congress of LAKRS.
  • A voluntary, independent and democratic social organisation.
  • Currently the fourth largest Trade Union in Latvia.
  • 203 business trade organizations in the services sector have voluntarily united in LAKRS.
  • One of 24 Trade unions in LBAS, the Latvian Free Trade Unions Association.
  • A member of the worldwide Public Services Internationale (PSI).
  • A member of European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU).
  • A member of International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel & Restaurant and Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations (IUF).
  • A member of European Federation of Trade Unions in the Food, Agriculture and Tourism sectors and allied branches (EFFAT).
  • A member of International Transport Workers` Federation
  • A member of European Transport Workers` Federation

The fundamental objective of LAKRS is to unite workers in the services sector in joint action to achieve:
  • The recognition of the union and the increasing of its influence for the realization of its lawful demands.
  • The development of social dialogue with employers and state institutions.
  • Educational work in the field of work rights.
  • Approprite pay for work done.
  • Guarantees for workers.
  • Rights to recreation and spiritual and physical development.
  • United demands and solidarity in support.
